The Sixties Scoop: Past, Present, and Future
This keynote talk examines the emergence of the Indigenous child welfare system that gave rise to the “Sixties Scoop”. How and why so many thousands of children were taken into is explored, and the impact of family, community and cultural dislocation on individuals is highlighted. This talk concludes with recommendations on how Indigenous organizations and communities can contribute to changes in Indigenous child welfare.
