Custodian (full-time, contract)

The Wabano Centre for Aboriginal Health is an award-winning Health Access Centre that provides holistic health services to First Nation, Inuit, and Métis people living in Ottawa – one of the fastest-growing and diverse urban Indigenous communities in Canada. Wabano is a fast-paced, client-oriented organization that models the Indigenous values of balance, respect, and community interdependence.
Wabano is looking for a full-time Custodian (37.5 hours per week) to be a part of our maintenance team.
Responsibilities
- General maintenance and sanitation of the inside and outside of the building and taking initiative when cleaning and maintenance issues arise;
- Report any Health and Safety issues immediately and/or take action accordingly;
- As a part of a team, help create a seasonal work plan;
- Set up and take down programs/events;
- Assist minor renovation projects;
- Help organize spaces;
- Help lift/carry items.
The successful candidate will have the following qualifications
- 1-2 years experience as a custodian;
- Able to use a computer calendar in Outlook;
- Demonstrated ability to make minor repairs including (but not limited to) changing locks, building shelves, changing neon lights and other maintenance tasks as required;
- Able to follow direction and prioritize;
- Ability to do physically exerting tasks including: heavy lifting, walking up and down flights of stairs several times/day, lifting/twisting often at awkward angles and stand/walk for most of the work day;
- Strong knowledge of industrial health and safety;
- Ability to work effectively within Indigenous community;
- Ability to work flexible hours, including early morning and evenings;
- Excellent time management skills, ability to multi-task and prioritize; and
- Competent communication and interpersonal skills.

Salary
$18 per hour plus benefits
