I Belong Here Program “Nidaji Tibeninadāgwaz Ondaje”

The Aboriginal School Liaison supports self-identified First Nations, Inuit and Metis students that attend school in the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board (Kindergarten to Grade 12).

Service Objectives:

  • Act as an advocate for students and their families between home and school
  • Provide in-school cultural support to First Nations, Inuit, Metis students
  • Improve academic achievement
  • Provide awareness and support in self-identifying as a First Nations, Inuit, Metis person at school
  • Provide resources to help enhance cultural awareness and understanding to teachers/students/school board

The Aboriginal School Liaison can meet with you at your school to discuss collaboration opportunities to help all students, teachers and administrators in learning about contemporary/traditional First Nations, Inuit, Metis cultures, histories, and perspectives.

Examples include:

  • Workshops
  • Presentations
  • Coordinating class trips to Wabano Centre for Aboriginal Health
  • Presence at school events and meetings
  • Professional development sessions for teachers and administrators
