Wabano Centre for Aboriginal Health presents Wabano-win (the art of seeing clearly), an Indigenous Cultural Safety workshop/training available to service providers within Ontario Health. From an Indigenous-led framework, this one-day, immersive learning model aims to provide participants with a better understanding of Canadian histories and how present-day beliefs and attitudes continue to influence harmful policies and practices. The goal is to enhance safety and fairness for Indigenous people through increased awareness and meaningful actions.
Indigenous Cultural Safety Courses
Wabano-win: The Art of Seeing Clearly is a learning journey with courses that teach participants to better understand two core things:
How to contribute to improving Indigenous health, and
How to create safe spaces for Indigenous people in their practice.
Wabano-win aims to provide participants with a deeper understanding of colonization in Canada and how it influences relationships between Indigenous people and Settlers:
Canadian history from an Indigenous-led perspective;
An exploration of how Canadian policies and practices continue to influence the ways Indigenous people are viewed and treated when accessing essential services, such as health-care;
A better understanding of how to approach interactions with Indigenous people in more culturally safe and meaningful ways;
Access to tools and resources related to personal and professional development that can be supportive when working with Indigenous people and communities.
