On February 4, we are honoured to host Maureen Lux for a full workshop based on Separate Beds. This powerful work brings together the voices of hospital survivors with the stark realities found in archival records, telling a difficult story of institutional racism with compassion, while also highlighting the strength, resilience, and determination of Indigenous communities to manage their own health care and work toward a more just and equitable society.
This workshop will deepen participants’ understanding of how Indigenous peoples have historically experienced health care systems and how those experiences continue to shape interactions with health care today. With this understanding, staff will be better equipped with empathy, awareness, and insight that can meaningfully improve service delivery and relationships with Indigenous community members.
