Flotilla for Friendship 2025 is an annual event that brings together Indigenous youth, community organizations like the Wabano Centre for Aboriginal Health, and the Ottawa Police Service for a day of paddling, cultural activities, and community connection. Originally organized 24 years ago by the late Lynda Kitchikeesic, the event continues to honour her vision of healing relationships between Indigenous communities and public service institutions through land, water, and shared action.
This year’s event will take place on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, along the Ottawa River. The day will include canoeing, games, lunch, and opportunities for Indigenous youth to connect directly with first responders and community leaders in a safe and supportive setting. Wabano is pleased to be supporting this event by coordinating youth participation, running games during lunch, and providing facilitators who will be present to support youth throughout the day. We will meet at Black Rapids Lock Station, stop at Mooney’s Bay for lunch/games, and end at Dow’s Lake around 3:00 PM.
