Join Wabano’s Culture Department for a family-friendly day on the land as we explore Kitji Sziibii (the Great Ottawa River) during the transition into autumn.
Our destination will be Pinhey’s Point Historic Site. Along the way, we may visit forests, wetlands, and shoreline habitats within and around the Lac Deschênes Important Bird Area, with possible stops at Britannia Conservation Area, Shirley’s Bay, and Sheila McKee Park. The route will depend on the day’s conditions, available time, and opportunities to observe birds, native plants, and other wildlife.
Early autumn is an exciting time to explore the river as migrating birds travel south and the landscape begins its seasonal transition. A bagged lunch will be provided, and binoculars will be available to borrow.
Participants should be prepared for a full day outdoors, including walking over uneven terrain. Please dress for the weather and wear sturdy walking shoes or hiking boots.
This community event is open to Indigenous community members.

Transportation will be provided in Wabano vans, with space for 14 community members. Van spaces are limited and will be confirmed after registration. Participants may also drive their own vehicles and meet the group at designated stops or at Pinhey’s Point Historic Site. Meeting locations and approximate arrival times will be shared with confirmed participants.
Registration is offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Submitting the registration form does not guarantee a space in the Wabano vans. A Wabano staff member will contact you to confirm your registration and transportation arrangements.
If you are unable to attend after registering, please let us know as soon as possible so your space may be offered to another community member.
*The outing may run later than 4:00 p.m. depending on travel time, the group’s pace, stops along the route, and time spent on the land.
