Mental Health and Addictions Worker (Housing Department)

The Role
Are you passionate about supporting Indigenous community members on their healing journey? Do you bring both professional training and a deep understanding of the systemic barriers Indigenous people face when accessing mental health and addiction services?
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Mental Health and Addiction Worker to join our team. In this role, you will provide culturally grounded, client-centered support to individuals experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness, while navigating complex health and social systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide intensive case management with a primary caseload of approximately 30 clients
- Deliver outreach-based mental health and addiction support to individuals experiencing or at risk of homelessness
- Provide crisis intervention and ongoing emotional support
- Conduct outreach in community settings including streets, shelters, encampments, and clients’ homes
- Build and maintain strong relationships with service providers supporting trauma, addictions, and mental health
- Complete client assessments, referrals, advocacy, and support within a case management framework
- Facilitate one-on-one and group support sessions and educational opportunities
- Support clients in accessing treatment options and navigating systems of care
- Assist clients in addressing social challenges through referrals and system navigation
- Participate in case conferences, chart reviews, and team collaboration
- Maintain accurate, confidential client records and complete required reporting
- Contribute to data collection and program evaluation efforts
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary degree in Social Service Work or a related field
- Strong interpersonal and counselling skills with the ability to work across diverse populations and settings
- Demonstrated knowledge of the impacts of colonization and systemic barriers on Indigenous mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual health
- Proven cultural competency in working with First Nations, Inuit, and Métis communities
- A non-judgmental, inclusive, and strengths-based approach to supporting individuals experiencing substance use and other complex challenges
- Ability to work some evenings, weekends and possibly overnights for on-the-land outings when required
- Ability to recognize and respond effectively to crisis situations
- Strong decision-making skills and ability to work in unpredictable environments
- Knowledge of and ability to navigate health care and social service systems
- Valid Criminal Reference Check for working with vulnerable populations
Salary:
Range $57,000 – $65,000 per year + Benefits
