Bird migration on the Kitji Ziibii (the Great River, the Ottawa River) migratory corridor. Migration season in Ottawa is an exciting time of year. We will be visiting Ottawa’s best birding hotspot, Britannia Conservation Area and the Lac Deschenes Important Bird Area. During the month of May many thousands of birds are travelling north from their wintering grounds and making stops all along the way. This gives us a chance to see birds that are travelling incredible distances and provides us opportunities to learn about the land and the world around us. Birds that we can expect to see include neotropical migrants such as wood-warblers, flycatchers, thrushes and vireos. They are some of most beautiful birds in the world and come in many vibrant colours and eye-catching patterns. With spring in full bloom, we can expect to see all sorts of other lifeforms and enjoy the reawakening of the land and all our relations.

If you have a pair of binoculars or a camera, feel free to bring them along. We will have a few pairs of
binoculars to share amongst the group.
