The Wabano Centre for Aboriginal Health is an award-winning Health Access Centre that provides holistic health services to First Nation, Inuit and Métis people living in Ottawa – one of the fastest growing and diverse urban Indigenous communities in Canada. Purpose of Position

The Intake Worker is the first point of contact for new clients and completes all initial service assessments and agreements for clients seeking service from the Clinic.

Some of the responsibilities of this position are:

  • Provide intake to new clients of the Centre;
  • Provide culturally-appropriate direct service including client assessment and referrals, crisis intervention, advocacy, and case management;
  • Provide advocacy and referrals to help clients access relevant community services;
  • Enter all client information and statistical information into the Electronic Medical Records system and other databases as required;
  • Maintaining accurate, confidential, and up-to-date client records, ensuring required information is shared with organizations receiving referrals, and monitoring referral status of clients;
  • Other administration tasks in order to provide high-quality client care or as dictated by the needs of the organization.

 Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary completion in Social Service Work other social services program of study;
  • Exceptional customer service skills and problem solving ability;
  • Experience working in a front-line service role;
  • Able to work and thrive in a high pressure, fast paced environment;
  • Excellent computer skills – experience using an Electronic Medical Records System will be considered an asset;
  • Ability to speak an Indigenous language will be considered a strong asset;
  • Knowledge, sensitivity and awareness of the history, culture and unique needs of the urban Indigenous culture;
  • Excellent organizational skills with strong oral and written communication skills;
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, particularly Excel, Word and PowerPoint;
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.
  • Clear criminal reference check to work with vulnerable population is required.

Salary

$25-28 per hour, plus MERC and 4%
